With warmer days here, the opportunities from land are opening up in a big way. Speckled trout, redfish, and flounder are all in play from the bayside, and one of our favorite ways to chase them is by casting Knockin Tail paddle tails and Knockin Shrimp. These plastics come with a built-in rattle to help trigger strikes.
Here’s what we like to run:
1/8 oz jig head – for a slow drop and more hang time in the strike zone
1/4 oz jig head – for more distance and when the current is stronger or the wind is up
Snap on a popping cork for maximum noise and attraction when you want to call fish in.

Panhandle Salt is the founder of the first land based fishing guide association on the Gulf Coast. The Gulf Coast Land Based Fishing Guide Association unites surf fishing guides across the Florida Panhandle and Alabama Gulf Coast to collaborate on laws, ethics, safety standards, conservation, and professional best practices for running surf fishing charters. The association’s mission is to elevate guide professionalism, protect beach access, and serve anglers through training, resources, and community events.
